My name is Angela Romero and I’m the blogger at Madamecroquette.com. I was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. When I was growing up, I would always hang out with both my grandmas – Fanny and Beatriz – instead of playing outside with my other cousins. I was fascinated with the delicious aromas coming from their kitchens, each dish, each ingredient, had an amazing story to tell. My favorite cooking task was to shell countless amounts of peas, a necessary ingredient in Colombian cuisine. The biggest reward came when we were sitting at the table sharing our stories and eating the food we had just made. Those moments were and still are the glue that holds our family together. Now living away from home, having a food blog is part homage to my grandmothers and mom, part digital dinner table where I share my stories with my extended virtual family.
The name of my blog, Madame Croquette comes from one of my favorite foods is mashed potatoes. Mashed potatoes are so simple, but so good and comforting. It reflects my philosophy of cooking in which simple, honest ingredients prepared with love make the best dishes. And there is also the fact that I freaking love mashed potatoes and croquettes are fried mashed potatoes with melty, gooey cheese inside. What is better than that? No-thing!
